John 2:12-14 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days. (13) And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, (14) And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: .
The Feast of the Passover was a very important time for every Jew. This feast was when all of Israel looked back to the time when they were delivered from the Egyptians. Remember how the Israelites were slaves to the Egyptians? Remember how God killed the firstborn of all the Egyptians? Remember how God skipped over the houses which had lambs blood on the door? That was the Passover or the time when the angel of death passed over. This was a very important day for the Israelites and everyone wanted to go to the temple to make a sacrifice. Of course, whenever a lot of people get together, there will also be a lot of people trying to sell stuff and make a little money. Does Jesus want the temple (or the church) to be a place for us to sell stuff and make money?
